black powder revolver

here is a question for all you gun enthusiasts I recently purchased a 36 cal
black powder revolver lots of fun to shoot. I have been shooting muzzel loaders for a while now but am having primer trouble with revolver at full charge (max grains of powder) caps blow of and jam the mechanism (fall under hammer) have tried reducing charge down to the bare minimun and this
has helped but not eliminated problem I am going to try some different primers.at full charge 100% jam at min charge 10% jam.

Is this normal?

I cant imagine the west was won with such unreliability? I guess maybee holywood may be to blame for my perception of reliable shootn irons.
make that first shot count.

Your caps are designed for a rifle. Theres no problem if a cap blows off a rifle. Revolver caps are no longer available so try crimping your caps before putting them on. I shoot a Ruger "Old Army" in .44 cal. I have had the "blown off cap" problem too! I squeeze (crimp) the caps so they fit snugly, It doesnt fix the problem completely but it helps a lot.
In the old west they also carried a large knife for times when revolvers wouldnt work!

Re: black powder revolver

Another black powder revolver question have now purchased a rugar old army
1858 replica pistol from cabelas and have been very happy with this gun Im no longer haveing problems with cap jam (well very rarely) and its very accurate even out to 75 to 100 yards the draw back with this gun is that the
revolver pin jams badly (due to fouling) after only 12 shots and accuracy suffers also.

another small problem with this revolver is that after less than 300 shots I believe it is ready for another hammer assembly
or at least some smithing.

This is something that im happy to deal with shooting black powder but have been reading on the cabelas web site reviews about people buying 45 LC
conversion kits for these guns and was wondering if anybody knew where i could purchase such. This gun was manufactured by pietta of itally i have tried the pietta website but no luck.cabellas does not list anything but extra
cap and ball revolver chambers.
